The submission period for the seventh issue of Catchment – Poetry of Place will open up in a fortnight’s time, on 21 September 2026.
Poets taking the opportunity to look in advance will find changes in the Submission Guidelines.
With our team still small, we remain in a position where we can only accept work from Australian writers.
While the journal continues to welcome new poetry of place, both in longer forms & as tanka, all contributors will now be obliged to offer one biographical statement at the start of the submission process for each new edition.
Readers may remember that tanka co-editor Jo McInerney offered a Catchment Views essay in June which looked at innovative work by Indian poet Kala Ramesh.
Beyond stand-alone poems & sequences, tanka poets may wish to make an early start on drafting new work of a third kind, in the form of tanka-doha, or pairs of twin-tanka.
Regular contributors may also note that changes in Guidelines – easily accessed here on the homepage for Catchment – extend upon points made with previous editions about approaches we appreciate.
Within longer poems which will still need to focus on a sense of location, our editorial team may be more open than before to accepting contributions involving rhyme, if used effectively/ if integral to a traditional verse-form.
We look forward to beginning to receive new poems of place in two weeks’ time!
