History of Bbaa

The Baw Baw Arts Alliance Incorporated (Bbaa) was established in 2010 by a group of like-minded people who had the vision to inspire, promote, facilitate and encourage a vibrant and creative arts environment within the community.

The aims of the Alliance are to:

  • Facilitate and encourage contemporary art, craft, design, music, writing and performance.
  • Encourage business and community partnerships of the creative community of Baw Baw Shire.
  • Facilitate opportunities for artists to exhibit/perform both within the community of Baw Baw Shire & the wider arts world.
  • Encourage networking and society of artists, craftspeople, designers, curators, performers, writers & audiences through the resources of the Baw Baw Arts Alliance.
  • Celebrate cultural diversity and support Aboriginal arts practice.
  • Promote the value of arts and culture in all aspects of the community.

ACTIVITIES

The Committee oversees a number of activities including:

The Station Gallery – Yarragon – opened July 2014

The Gallery offers space for exhibitions, classes, regular workshops, meetings and houses a sales space to showcase the work of local artists.

The Station Gallery – Trafalgar  – opened October 2015

This offers two workshop areas for Bbaa or the Community

Art Space 1 is a large area for “clean” workshops, performance, gallery space or meetings.

Art Space 2 is our new purpose built workshop area for those messier sessions –  see  Drop in groups.

These spaces can be hired when space is available.

Gratefully these  Station buildings were refurbished by VicTrack as part of the Community Use of Vacant Railway Buildings Program
for use by The Baw Baw Arts Alliance, the Yarragon and District Community Association and Trafalgar Community.  The operation of the spaces
is also supported by the Trafalgar and District Community Bank and is managed and manned by volunteers.

The Warragul Arts Market

This was established in 2012 and has grown into a large and vibrant event, run in conjunction with the
Warragul Farmers Market in Civic Park, from October to March each year.

Trafalgar Arts Market

Ran between  October 2016  to  September 2017

Ficifolia Art Show

Bbaa organises the Ficifolia Art Show, a component of the annual Drouin Ficifolia Festival held each February.
This event offers significant prizes and attracts attention of artists both within the shire and further afield.
